Steven P. Lawrie
Steven P. Lawrie, 64, of Dunkirk, N.Y., went home to be with the Lord, with his loving family by his side, on Jan. 16, 2022, following a lengthy illness.
Steven was born on Aug. 28, 1957, in Dunkirk N.Y., the son of the late Robert and Marjorie Lawrie.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1976-80. He was stationed at NAS Miramar in San Diego, Calif. He also served aboard the USS Ranger in El Centro, Calif. Steven married his wife of 44 years, Cynthia Ann on May 27, 1977. Together they had three children.
Steven worked for the City of Dunkirk, Water Department for over 30 years and retired from there in 2017. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Dunkirk, N.Y., and a member of multiple local social clubs. He served as the fire chief for the West Town of Dunkirk Fire Department and was a volunteer fireman.
Steven was an avid out-door enthusiast. He loved camping, four wheeling, boating, fishing, trap shooting and hunting. He loved spending time with his family and friends, and could always be counted on for a good laugh and to put a smile on your face. He was always willing to lend a helping hand when needed.
Steven is survived by his loving wife, Cindy; two brothers: Robert (Suzanne) Lawrie and Ray Lawrie; a sister, Sheila (Dick) Sikes; and three children: Phillip (Julie) Lawrie, Steven (Kimberly) Lawrie, Nicholas (Christina Fredrickson) Lawrie. He also leaves behind four grandsons; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father, mother and infant brother.
Steven donated his body to the UB Medical School Anatomical Program, in hopes of helping the world to find cures for debilitating diseases, such as diabetes and kidney disease.
A celebration of life will be held later this spring.
Many thanks to the Chautauqua County Hospice and Palliative Care team.
If it touches anyone’s heart to do so, a gift in Steve’s memory, to the UB Medical Program or Kidney Disease Association, would be greatly appreciated.
Arrangements are by the R. Mackowiak Funeral Home Inc.
