Cambridge has been named as the cheapest place in the United Kingdom to live a healthy lifestyle. The study ranked the city top using factors such as price of renting a tennis court for an hour, monthly gym memberships, and cost of fruit and veg.
The research, from professional sports experts BarBend, found health costs in Cambridge account for 2.71% of the average weekly salary. That is despite a high monthly gym cost, an average of around £34.
In contrast, the city came in at third cheapest for renting a tennis court, just £5.08 an hour, and had one of the cheapest lettuce costs in the UK – 55p a kilogram.

Coming in as the second cheapest UK city to stay healthy is Coventry. The city has the fifth cheapest tennis court cost at £7.25 for an hour and the fourth cheapest gym membership price at £23.12 per month, with overall health costs equating to 2.76% of the average salary per week.
The analysis revealed Swansea as the most expensive city in the UK to maintain a healthy lifestyle. The city has the fifth cheapest gym membership cost at £23.26 per month, however tops the list for the most expensive price for renting a tennis court at around £21 for an hour at the weekend according to Numbeo.
A spokesperson for BarBend said: “The importance of health has been emphasized more than ever over the last couple of years due to Covid, however it is not always financially viable for everyone to live such a healthy lifestyle. Healthier foods are nearly three times more expensive than unhealthy foods with more calories, so this research provides a useful insight into which UK cities offer people the cheapest way to live a healthy lifestyle”.
