SARATOGA SPRINGS CITY COUNCIL MEETINGS: Regular Saratoga Springs City Council meetings are held on the first and third Tuesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. City Council meetings are held in the Music Hall at City Hall at this time. Meetings are open to the public, and admission into the room will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Check the meeting agenda for times of Public Hearings. The Ramp Door on the Broadway entrance to the building will be open for public access at 6:30 p.m. The Council routinely reviews and approves Rules of Conduct for public meetings, which will be followed at all meetings of the City Council, including the Public Comment period, for the benefit of all citizens. STEERING COMMITTEE MEETING: The Village of Ballston Spa’s Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee will meet twice during the month of February to review and discuss the built environment of the village. The meetings will be held on the first and third Thursdays of the month, February 3 and February 17, at 7 pm at the Saratoga County Office Building at 50 West High Street in Ballston Spa. The discussions will touch on several topics, such as reviewing the range of styles and time periods of existing buildings and how they relate to living, visiting and investing in the village, what aspects contribute to the perception of Ballston Spa and how the village character can be maintained while also allowing for new structures. Zoning enforcement, downtown building heights and design standards, teardowns and compatibility of new structures with existing ones will be examined. The Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee has been formed to work in conjunction with a professional planning consultant to identify and study several topics over the course of the next year in order to create a final plan for approval by the Village board of trustees. All meetings are open to the public, who are encouraged to attend and provide input, either by in-person attendance or via Zoom. SPRING OVERLOOK HIKE: Join an environmental educator on a guided hike up to the Spring Overlook. This is about a 1-mile trek uphill to the overlook then a mile hike back down. We will meet at the park office where you will stop to pay and then we will drive over to the spring parking lot and start our hike from there. Cost is $5 per adult and $1 per child. If conditions are icy plan to bring a traction device for your boot, if you don’t have any, we have limited pairs available at the office. If snowshoes are needed, we do have rentals available. MID-WINTER PARTY FOR A CAUSE: The Ballston Spa Lions Club is hosting the Mid-Winter Party for a Cause. LAKE BONITA HIKE: Join and environmental educator on a hike around Lake Bonita. This hike is around 3 miles through the woods. There isn’t too much of an incline but there are some ups and downs with some technical root spots. This hike is rated easy to moderate. Please call 518-917-2174 to make a reservation. FIRST RESPONDER LARGE ANIMAL TRAINING: Cornell Cooperative of Saratoga County has partnered with Upstate Equine Medical Center to host a “First Responder Large Animal Training.” This training will be held on February 8th at 6 pm, at Update Equine Medical Center located at 362 Rugg Rd, Schuylerville, NY 12871. This training was designed for individuals who would be primary contact in an emergency situation; firefighters, police officers, EMT, animal control, etc. However, anyone who would like to know more about handling large animal livestock in emergency situations is welcome. The training will be conducted by Steve Sedrish DVM, Tracy Bartick-Sedrish DVM of Upstate Equine Medical Center, and Pandora Davis VMD of H&N Bovine. RIDGE RUN HIKE: Join and environmental educator on an interpretive hike along the Ridge Run trail. This will be a long hike around 4-5 miles. To begin we will start at the Moreau Overlook trailhead. This will be a hard hike climbing up the overlook trail. We will take the Moreau Overlook trail to get to the Ridge Run trail then make a loop with the Ridge Run and come back down the Moreau Overlook Trail. The rating of this hike is expert. HIGH ROCK TRAIL: Join an environmental educator on this long hike along the High Rock Trail. This hike will be a nice hike through the forest although it will be long at about 6-7 miles. We will start our hike at the Bonita trailhead and hike over to lake Ann. From there we will get on the High Rock trail and then loop around to the Eastern Ridge back to the Lake Ann trail. There isn’t too much incline on this but some ups and downs. The High Rock Trail has some beautiful rock ledges. This hike is rated as advanced to expert due to the length. Please be prepared for winter hiking with snowshoes or spikes depending on weather conditions. We have some available for rent if you don’t own any. You must register for this event at 518-917-2174. STEERING COMMITTEE MEETING: The Village of Ballston Spa’s Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee will meet twice during the month of February to review and discuss the built environment of the village. The meetings will be held on the first and third Thursdays of the month, February 3 and February 17, at 7 pm at the Saratoga County Office Building at 50 West High Street in Ballston Spa. The discussions will touch on several topics, such as reviewing the range of styles and time periods of existing buildings and how they relate to living, visiting and investing in the village, what aspects contribute to the perception of Ballston Spa and how the village character can be maintained while also allowing for new structures. Zoning enforcement, downtown building heights and design standards, teardowns and compatibility of new structures with existing ones will be examined. The Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee has been formed to work in conjunction with a professional planning consultant to identify and study several topics over the course of the next year in order to create a final plan for approval by the Village board of trustees. All meetings are open to the public, who are encouraged to attend and provide input, either by in-person attendance or via Zoom. PLAY READING: The Shuster Series of play readings is once again being presented by Home Made Theater. Join in for a “round table” play reading as participants dissect and discuss some of theater’s great literature as a group. Roles are assigned so all who attend get plenty of “performance” time. Audience members (non-readers) also welcome. The first play in the series is scheduled for Saturday, January 22nd from 10:15-1:15. Participants will be reading Our Country’s Good by Timberlake Wertenbecker. Based on true events, Our Country’s Good is set in Sydney, Australia in the early days of the settlement of Australia as a penal Colony. The play is about another play, a comedy called The Recruiting Officer, being performed using convicts as the actors, and directed by a very earnest young officer. The Shuster Series play readings will be held at the Ballston Spa Public Library at 21 Milton Avenue, Ballston Spa. Other dates in this season are February 19th, March 19th, April 16th, and May 21st. All readings will be from 10:15am -1:15pm. Participation is free, though there is a suggested donation of $5 to cover the cost of printing. PLAY READING: The Shuster Series of play readings is once again being presented by Home Made Theater. Join in for a “round table” play reading as participants dissect and discuss some of theater’s great literature as a group. Roles are assigned so all who attend get plenty of “performance” time. Audience members (non-readers) also welcome. The first play in the series is scheduled for Saturday, January 22nd from 10:15-1:15. Participants will be reading Our Country’s Good by Timberlake Wertenbecker. Based on true events, Our Country’s Good is set in Sydney, Australia in the early days of the settlement of Australia as a penal Colony. The play is about another play, a comedy called The Recruiting Officer, being performed using convicts as the actors, and directed by a very earnest young officer. The Shuster Series play readings will be held at the Ballston Spa Public Library at 21 Milton Avenue, Ballston Spa. Other dates in this season are February 19th, March 19th, April 16th, and May 21st. All readings will be from 10:15am -1:15pm. Participation is free, though there is a suggested donation of $5 to cover the cost of printing. FIRE AND ICE GALA: The American Red Cross Eastern New York Region announces their signature Fire and Ice Gala will return to the Albany Capital Center on Saturday April 9, 2022.
Honorary Chairs are Ellen Sax, MVP Health Care’s Vice President of Community Engagement, and Benita Zhan DPS, MS, CHWC. The Fire and Ice Gala is the primary source of funding for the Eastern New York Region which serves more than 3.6 million residents. The region spans 27 counties and includes three chapters. Annually the region responds to over 680 local disasters, serves more than 2,300 local military families and collects more than 106,000 units of live saving blood. The Gala will feature fine wine and food, music and dancing, and outstanding live and silent auctions, which showcase one-of-a-kind items and experiences. DINNER TO GO: The Principessa Elena Society, 11-13 Oak Street, Saratoga Springs has resumed its monthly Dinners To-Go, from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. on the third Friday of each month, except during racing season. FISH FRY FRIDAY: Fish Creek Rod and Gun Club will start Fish Fry Friday on Friday, Jan. 14, 2022 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM , and continue every Friday through April 15, 2022. PLAY READING: The Shuster Series of play readings is once again being presented by Home Made Theater. Join in for a “round table” play reading as participants dissect and discuss some of theater’s great literature as a group. Roles are assigned so all who attend get plenty of “performance” time. Audience members (non-readers) also welcome. The first play in the series is scheduled for Saturday, January 22nd from 10:15-1:15. Participants will be reading Our Country’s Good by Timberlake Wertenbecker. Based on true events, Our Country’s Good is set in Sydney, Australia in the early days of the settlement of Australia as a penal Colony. The play is about another play, a comedy called The Recruiting Officer, being performed using convicts as the actors, and directed by a very earnest young officer. The Shuster Series play readings will be held at the Ballston Spa Public Library at 21 Milton Avenue, Ballston Spa. Other dates in this season are February 19th, March 19th, April 16th, and May 21st. All readings will be from 10:15am -1:15pm. Participation is free, though there is a suggested donation of $5 to cover the cost of printing. You can sign up to participate in The Shuster Series at Home Made Theater’s website: https://homemadetheater.org/get-involved/shuster-series-staged-readings/. Per CDC’s new guidance and the Village of Ballston Spa mandate, masks must be worn at all times in the library regardless of vaccination status. In addition, Home Made Theater’s policy requires proof of vaccination or a recent negative Covid-19 test.

The Ramp Door on the Broadway entrance to the building will be open for public access at 6:30 p.m. The Council routinely reviews and approves Rules of Conduct for public meetings, which will be followed at all meetings of the City Council, including the Public Comment period, for the benefit of all citizens. Agendas are available prior to the meetings. Minutes are available following approval. SARATOGA HORSE SYMPOSIUM: CCE Equine is excited to host our Saratoga Horse Symposium on May 14th at the 4-H Training Center in Ballston Spa. This exciting educational event is a celebration of the horse for new, aspiring, and experienced horse owners and professionals. Registration for general admission, vendors, and sponsors will be open in February for 2022. General admission for the Horse Symposium includes entry to a large used tack sale, vendors, and all clinics, and seminars. Tickets per adult are $15 for the day, youth, 18 years of age and younger, are $5 and 4-H youth members are free! Come and go as you please all day from 8:30-4:30 pm. The Horse Symposium has been dedicated to offering quality equine experiences for over 20 years. In the past, industry-leading veterinarians, trainers, and experts have joined us to offer a diverse offering that can be applicable to most equine disciplines. In between seminars and demonstrations participants can enjoy food concessions, bid in a silent auction, browse our vendor room, and enjoy a used tack-sale fundraiser for the Saratoga County 4-H program.

STRONGER TOGETHER ANNUAL DINNER: The Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce will celebrate its 104th year with a Stronger Together Annual Dinner, hosted on Tuesday, May 17th from 6:00 to 9:30 p.m. at the Saratoga Springs City Center. Over the past two years, the Chamber has been a vital part in being visible and vocal for all local businesses and non profits in Saratoga County. We have led the charge in rebuilding our communities to come back from a pandemic stronger than ever before through our new initiatives of Save Our Locals, Help Wanted Saratoga County, I Got the Shot campaign, and more currently, our $20.21 Save Our Locals program to raise awareness of keeping dollars spent in the local community!
