The 2022 NFL Scouting Combine has reached the fourth and final day as the defensive backs and special teams players take the field. After today, prospects will return to training centers in preparation for Pro Days. Visits with teams will soon begin as well.

The cornerback group is relatively loaded with talent even with LSU’s Derek Stingley Jr. opting not to participate. Cincinnati cornerback Ahmad ‘Sauce’ Gardner, Notre Dame safety Kyle Hamilton, Washington cornerbacks Trent McDuffie and Kyler Gordon, Florida cornerback Kaiir Elam and Clemson cornerback Andrew Booth Jr. are some of the elite talents expected to be on display. One sleeper to watch is Texas-San Antonio cornerback Tariq Woolen. He is a long prospect that is supposed to test very well.

In most years, the special teams do not get much love but this year is a bit different. San Diego State kicker/punter Matt Araiza was a weapon for the Aztecs last season. He will partake in drills. A year ago, Florida kicker Evan McPherson was preparing for the 2021 NFL Draft and would go on to be one of the postseason stars.

Follow along in our live blog below for more analysis and background on the prospects participating Sunday! You can also catch up on the first three days of the combine below as well.

Official 40-yard dash times:

Kalon Barnes (Baylor): 4.23 seconds

Tariq Woolen (UTSA): 4.26 seconds

Those are the fastest times ever by a defensive back but falls short of John Ross’ all-time combine record of 4.21.

Notre Dame’s Kyle Hamilton broad jumped 10-feet-11-inches, which is nuts. Tied for 30th all-time among safeties.

Pinned

Daniel Jeremiah making a great point that Roger McCreary plays at his top speed. It is great running the 40-yard dash fast but if that does not translate to the field, then who cares? McCreary is not a burner but he plays like it.

Pinned

Really nice rep from Washington’s Kyler Gordon. He kept his hips low, opened those hips easily but tight, found the football in the air and completed the play.

Pinned

Kentucky safety Yusuf Corker led all defensive backs with 23 reps on the bench press. Penn State safety Jaquan Brisker and Oklahoma State safety Kolby Harvell-Peel were the only others to top 20.

Pinned

Ahmad Gardner is regarded as a possible top 10 pick but it was actually his teammate, Coby Bryant, that won college football’s Thorpe Award given to the best defensive back.

Pinned

Tariq Woolen is the only guy that I thought would challenge Kalon Barnes’ time today. His second unofficial attempt was 4.30

Pinned

4.55 from Auburn’s Roger McCreary. He is not a burner and no one expected him to be. Where he falls short in speed, he makes up for in confidence, competitive toughness, versatility and resilience. He may not be an All-Pro type guy but McCreary is someone that you can draft and feel confident in what you get for a decade.

Pinned

Ahmad Gardner improves his time with a 4.47u. It’s not a WOW time that is going to force people to go back and re-evaluate his position amongst the top cornerbacks.

Pinned

Baylor’s Kalon Barnes re-takes the crown as fastest of the day with a 4.29.

Pinned

4.31 for Tariq Woolen. He was moving.

Pinned

4.41 would be a fantastic time for Alontae Taylor.

Pinned

4.57 for Kyler Gordon is disappointing if it holds. I expected him to be in the 4.3s, if not higher.

Pinned

Strange run from Ahmad Gardner. 4.52 is a solid time but it really looked like he was grinding. Never looked comfortable.

The CBSSports DB rankings:

LSU cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. (2)

Notre Dame safety Kyle Hamilton (3)

Cincinnati cornerback Ahmad Gardner (12)

Clemson cornerback Andrew Booth Jr. (14)

Auburn cornerback Roger McCreary (16)

Michigan safety Daxton Hill (24)

Florida cornerback Kaiir Elam (26)

Washington cornerback Trent McDuffie (32)

Kaiir Elam is considered a bigger corner so 4.47u is a good time for him.

Decobie Durant representing the same South Carolina State that produced Darius Leonard.

Daniel Jeremiah calling his shot that John Ross’ record could go down today. Tariq Woolen, Kalon Barnes and Kyler Gordon are the names we are watching.

Defensive backs up now.

Welcome back to our coverage of the fourth and final day of the NFL Combine!

Pinned

Thank you all for tuning into our coverage of Saturday’s Combine events. We will have more coverage tomorrow at 2 p.m. ET when the defensive backs and special teams take the field on the final day!

Pinned

Update: Still didn’t hit my prediction on Brian Asamoah running in the 4.40s… but his official was much faster than his two unofficial attempts — he ran 4.56, still a little slow based on what I saw on film and for him weighing 228 pounds

Pinned

Surely these linebackers aren’t going to go until 10 p.m. ET. It feels as though they’ve been on the field a long time.

Pinned

Much better coverage drill there from Chad Muma than the first run-through. He was a top 3 LB for me before combine. Stud against the run an excels in coverage.

Pinned

Awesome coverage drill there from Nephi Sewell. Think the genetics are pretty good in that family.

Pinned

There’s the explosiveness that’s clear to see on film from Tindall… 42-inch vertical and 10-9 broad jump
